SINGAPORE Myanmar’s Hospitality and Tourism Conference has moved venue from Yangon to the capital Nay Pyi Taw.
The organisers, Sphere Conferences, said they were complying with a request from the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, to host the event in Nay Pyi Taw.
Dates have been postponed to 8 to 10 June.
The new venue is Kempinski Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw.
inside no 7The organisers’ update stated that the change was “in line with the ministry’s vision to promote Nay Pyi Taw as a new destination for international audience.”
In conjunction with the event local hoteliers will hold their annual meeting and more invites have been sent out to more ministerial level attendees to the conference to extend the scope and size of the event.
Nay Pyi Taw has two convention centres and there are plans to build an exhibition centre. A brand new airport was opened in 2014, that is a showcase for the country’s emerging aviation industry in terms of facilities, but is under used with just two international airlines serving the airport in addition to domestic services.
Hoteliers have been pressing the government to give more incentives to airlines to fly to the capital and make it attractive financially to host conferences.
The last major conference to be hosted in the capital was the ASEAN Tourism Forum last January.
