Martial law revoked in Thailand

BANGKOK  Martial law was revoked across the country late Wednesday night, but replaced by new laws covered by Section 44 of the interim constitution.
The announcement was broadcast on national TV after His Majesty the King gave a Royal Command to revoke martial law enforced nationwide since May 2014.
In an announcement posted by the National News Bureau of Thailand, the government said the present situation gave no reasons for martial law to continue.
It was invoked by the army, 20 May and by the National Council for Peace and Order, 22 May last year.

The Deputy Minister of Defence stated that Section 44 would enable officials to maintain peace and order, while lifting martial law will created a “better understanding of Thailand’s situation to the international community.”
Deputy Minister of Defence and the Secretary-General of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Gen Udomdej Sitabutr said the implementation of new laws under Section 44 of the interim constitution, were required to maintain social peace and order, especially public safety.
