ATEC: Qantas resumes Perth-Singapore route

Another boost to the WA tourism export sector with Qantas announcing it will resume its Perth-Singapore route from 26 June 2015 with five return flights operating between the two cities each week.

“This is great news for the WA tourism industry, and is a direct response from our national carrier to the growing appeal of Western Australia, particularly for international travel” said ATEC md Peter Shelley.

Speaking at the International Tourism Marketing Forum in Perth, Mr Shelley said that the prospects for WA’s tourism industry were all pointing towards growth, including the strengthening of destination appeal via new infrastructure and facilities, an attractive foreign exchange rate, and less pressure on accommodation prices with a softening of the resources sector.

“Qantas’ announcement further strengthens WA’s growth opportunities by adding capacity exactly where and when it is needed, particularly on the important PER-SIN route.”

“This will also open up potential to attract more visitors from other Asian markets for WA, as the Perth-Singapore route will be well-positioned to offer seamless connections with other partner airlines from Singapore.”

This increased capacity from Asia is excellent news for Western Australia, which is now even better placed to capitalise on growth from Asia, as the state looks to tourism for economic leadership in the wake of the resources downturn.

“This is an exciting time for WA – the state is positioning itself well for maximum growth at an important economic time.”
