Hanoi mulls over airport options

HANOI  Noi Bai Airport’s T1 Terminal is not likely to be put up for auction, leaving the outsourcing of the facility to be decided by private negotiations reliable sources at government level suggested.
VietnamNet Bridge media reported the government has not approved any of the suggested plans on offering concessions to private investors.
Observers hoped that an auction would be organised by the Ministry of Transport to find a suitable buyer, because that would ensure a fair competition for the candidates, the media outlet suggested.
However, both Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air have registered interest in running Terminal 1 and negotiations might go ahead by-passing the auction option entirely.
inside no 3Under current regulations, the government can either find the buyer through auction, or via direct negotiations, or appoint buyers who can satisfy all requirements.
No official statement has been released, but inside information suggests the buyer of the T1 Terminal will not be determined through auction.
T1 opened in 2001 to serve both domestic and international flights with a design capacity of 6 million passengers a year.
In 2013, an addition area known as E Hall was opened with 25,000 square metres and a capacity of 3 million passengers a year. It is supposed to relieve congestion in T1.
