ATTA agents enjoy recovery

BANGKOK  Association of Thai Travel Agents’ member companies handled 1,109,360 international tourists at Suvarnabhumi Airport, January to March, representing an increase of 35.56% from 818,324 visits during the same period last year.
ATTA released its data, late last week, based on fees member agencies pay to the airport to provide a meet-and-greet service for international clients.
ATTA president, Charoen Wangananont, said the country tourism is now experiencing recovery.
“The lifting of martial law should help to rebuild tourism and restore the confidence of foreign countries. The move is expected to draw more international tourists and business travellers to the kingdom.”
inside no 4For the first three months of the year, China led the field with an improvement of 158.71% from 203,177 visits to 525,630 visits.
Russia followed in second place with 78,923 visits, but down 69.19% from 256,200 during the same month last year.
The next top five markets were: Japan (48,218; +29.64%); South Korea (43,325; -48.56%); and India (39,466; -29.71%).
In March, there were 384,813 foreign tourists travel through the association increasing 47.24% from 261,357 visits during the same month in 2014.
China continued in first place during March with 197,458 visits growing 148.52% from 79,453 visits.
Although March posted a decline of 72.85% in trips from Russia, the market was still in second place with 19,949 visits compared to 73,481 during the same month last year.
Neighbouring Vietnam was in third place at 16,327 visits increasing 507.40% from 2,688 visits.
Japan was in fourth place with 15,225 visits up 83.88% from 8,280, while South Korea, in fifth place, recorded 14,453 visits improving 87.85% from 7,694 visits.
The next top five markets in March were: India (13,645; +22.67%); Germany (8,734; +42.95%); Taiwan (7,808; +111.66%); Hong Kong (5,924; +5,596.15%); and France (5,124; -19.13%).
The association also reported there were 95,320 tourists travel through members at Don Mueang Airport in March.
The top 10 markets recorded at the airport were: China (219,060); Indonesia (10,106); Malaysia (6,293); Japan (3,085); India (2,410); South Korea (2,308); Vietnam (946); Poland (620); Myanmar (496); and Taiwan (396).
ATTA opened its second office at Don Mueang Airport on 1 August last year to offer meet-and-greet services for member travel agents.
During January to March, there were 249,393 international travellers used travel agency services at the second gateway.
ATTA members handled 1,358,753 clients at both airports during January and March.
