NEW DELHI - Thailand has been conferred the Best Wedding Destination by Travel + Leisure India & South Asia at the fourth edition of the India’s Best Awards 2014 ceremony recently held at The Leela Ambience Gurgaon Hotel in New Delhi, India.

This is the fourth year in a row where Thailand has received the best wedding destination award from India’s prestigious travel magazine, Travel + Leisure India & South Asia. The polling was conducted as a reader’s choice, both through the magazine and online in 2014, over a period of six months. In addition to this, opinions of a panel of outstanding experts in their fields are also taken into consideration.

Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa, Acting Governor of TAT and Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas) said, “Thailand is the perfect wedding destination, as it boasts spectacular romantic wonders, from the green mountains of the North, to the tropical beaches and islands. The weather is as warm and welcoming as the people, and our range of accommodation includes many secluded villas which are perfect for couples seeking privacy in paradise. Thailand’s large Indian community means wedding planners have great experience in putting together spectacular ceremonies and celebrations that guarantee memorable nuptials and honeymoons.”

Thailand’s blissful and spectacular beaches, tropical climate, misty mountains, diverse and fascinating culture, hospitable people, exotic cuisine and world-class luxury hotels and resorts attract the visitors and keep bringing them back, so much that it features among the most popular tourist destinations in Southeast Asia. Beside a traditional wedding celebration, Thailand also offers an underwater wedding, jungle wedding and cruise wedding.

According to the TAT New Delhi Office, each year around 200 Indian weddings are held in Thailand at various locations; such as, Rayong on the east coast which is becoming popular and Ko Chang (in Trat, also on the east coast) a new destination introduced recently to wedding planners for more choices.

In 2014, Thailand welcomed a total of 946,269 travellers from India. The average length of stay of Indian tourists is 7.27 days and average spending per person per day is 5,491.83 Baht.

Ms. Runjuan Tongrut, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) New Delhi Office said, “I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to Indian families for choosing Thailand as their dream wedding destination. I also would like to thank Travel + Leisure readers for voting Thailand as the best wedding destination for four years in a row. Not only from India, couples from all over the world choose Thailand for their dream wedding and honeymoon celebrations, making the kingdom one of the world’s popular wedding and honeymoon destinations, an acclaim that is backed by several awards and honours.”

Earlier this year, Thailand was named Asia’s Sexiest Romance/Honeymoon Destination by the US-based Recommend Magazine’s readers and one of the world’s Best Honeymoon Destinations for 2015 by Fordors.com. In addition, the paradise island of Samui was listed as one of the top ten romantic destinations in the world alongside cities; such as, Paris and Venice.
