Costa Cruises has continued the expansion of its Chinese fleet, with the deployment of its Costa Serena to the country and the announcement that Costa Fortuna will be based in China next year.

The Costa Serena celebrated its maiden call at the Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal on Friday, joining the Costa Atlantica and Costa Victoria, which are already based in the city.

And next April, Costa Fortuna will arrive in Shanghai for its first Chinese season.

“The addition of Costa Serena reinforces Costa Cruises’ leadership position in China’s fast-growing cruise market,” said Michael Thamm, CEO of Costa Crociere. “According to the current analysis by the CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association), Costa Cruises occupies the leading position in the cruise market with four out of 10 reservations made for Costa ships.

“After nine years of successful operations and explicit support and encouragement from the Chinese government, Costa Cruises will continue to expand its offerings and satisfy the demands of the China market,” he added.

Sailing to Shanghai in April 2016, Costa Fortuna will be the fourth Costa ship in China, increasing the Italian company’s capacity in the country by 38%.
