AirAsia fills TAAX gap to Sapporo

29 Apr 2015  2037 | World Travel News

BANGKOK  Thai AirAsia will operate a new service, Bangkok to Sapporo, in Japan, using an AirAsia X (Malaysian) aircraft 1 to 31 May.
The move is a temporary measure to serve passengers who had pre-paid for flights to Sapporo during May. There is a Japanese ban on new services operated by Thai registered airlines following the failure of Thailand’s Department of Civil Aviation to meet ICAO safety protocols.
Thai AirAsia X said in its statement that the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB)’s stopped Thai-based airlines from operating charter flights, applying for additional flights or adding any new routes, effective 29 March. Thai AirAsia X has been working closely with both relevant Thai government agencies and JCAB to resolve the situation for passengers who had booked and pre-paid for flights up to the end of May.
For the time being, JCAB has allowed AirAsia X (Malaysia) to operate so-call “rescue flights” between Bangkok (DMK) and Sapporo (CTS) 1 to 31 May 2015 to accommodate affected Thai AirAsia X passengers.
AirAsia X (Malaysia) will provide the same type of Airbus A330-300 aircraft using the code D7 on the route.

*New flight code (D7) operates 1 to 31 May.
Thai AirAsia X passengers with bookings on the Bangkok (DMK) – Sapporo (CTS) route during the mentioned period will be able to travel as booked.
