Postcard & Tag’s global launch rocks Twitter in Indonesia

HONG KONG - The global launch of Postcard & Tag, an entirely unique online social travel directory, was held in Jakarta on Tuesday April 21, 2015.

Around 200 media, travel bloggers and industry VIPs attended the launch as co-founders Punyo Sakharet and Ruth Naderer unveiled the site publicly for the first time.

“We were overwhelmed with the positive response to Postcard & Tag from our very enthusiastic guests,” said Punyo Sakharet, co-founder and Creative Director of Postcard & Tag. “We ran a live Twitter promotion where guests Tweeted @postcardandtag and #globallaunch which trended number one in Indonesia, and one lucky guest won a luxury holiday to Bali for receiving the most Twitter impressions.”

Sakharet introduced the site, beginning his presentation with the extensive history of the traditional postcard, and sharing his vision for creating a useful, interactive and visually exciting travel directory through images.

“From the feedback we received at the launch, it’s very clear that Postcard & Tag is filling a gap in the online travel world,” Sakharet said. “Our guests were very receptive to the concept of a digital postcard that can be shared while travelling and to suit individual tastes.”

“Travel is an emotional and personal experience. Some want a quiet beach escape, some an adventurous hike while others prefer to explore culinary culture. Postcard & Tag gives you the opportunity to find the best recommendations based on other’s experiences. Guide books can become outdated and often miss the unique finds which you only hear about from other travellers,” he added.

In his presentation, Sakharet explained: “A picture is worth a thousand words and travellers naturally prefer imagery which makes a far larger connection than wordy travel reviews. We’ve reinvigorated and personalised the traditional postcard and brought it into the 21st century.”

MC Hannah Al Rashid, TV presenter and actress hosted the event and interviewed Postcard & Tag Local Tipi Jabrik, CEO of the Indonesian Surfing Championships and star of the sport. Jabrik shared his enthusiasm for how the site can help travellers uncover hidden gems through word of mouth in much the same way surfers discover the best surf breaks.

Guests enjoyed signature destination designed cocktails, such as Sumba Sunrise and Medan Martinis, while feasting on a delicious menu produced by Will Meyrick, celebrity chef for E&O Jakarta, also a Postcard & Tag Local.

“Our Twitter buzz campaign was projected live onto a large screen throughout the event, and resulted in @postcardandtag #globallaunch achieving over 6.6 million impressions within a three hour period,” Sakharet added. “It was an enormously successful evening and we appreciate the incredible support of our guests which included representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, industry leaders, media and the passionate travel blogging community.”

“To celebrate our global launch, we’ve activated a ‘Wonderful Indonesia’ photo competition in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism on Postcard & Tag,” said Ruth Naderer, co-founder and CEO of Postcard & Tag. “Our membership is growing rapidly and the images that are being uploaded to the Wonderful Indonesia page are outstanding.”

“We selected Indonesia for the global launch because – other than Bali - it’s a country largely unexplored by many international visitors,” Naderer continued. “Indonesians are also increasingly discovering the unique beauty and enormous diversity of cultural experiences that this country has to offer. We’re certain that Indonesian travellers, and the world at large, will appreciate the unique features of Postcard & Tag to showcase any destination through the camera and more often today, through a smartphone lens.”

In the coming year Postcard & Tag will roll out launch events throughout Southeast Asia, although the site is available now for members globally.
