BANGKOK  Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau will work with the Royal Thai Army Tourism Organisation to stimulate domestic events at army camps.
The new partnership will promote team building events for domestic corporations at specific army camps around the country.
The inaugural launch of so-called army destination occurred, last week, at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy in Nakhon Nayok province around 100 km from Bangkok.
TCEB president, Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, said he would expand the project to other army camps
inside no 1“TCEB aims to boost domestic travel as part of our D-MICE business promotion policy for 2015,” he said.
The Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy is one of the most famous military sites and is located close to the Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Nayok province, noted for its soft adventure products including river rafting.
Using military installations as a venue for domestic events will complement the drive to establish five MICE cities, (Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Khon Kaen) by offering specialised events for corporations.
The camp and academy have a shooting range, golf course, and is a site for rock climbing, a 34-metre tower jump and kayaking.
TCEB expects that the number of MICE travellers visiting the military venues and also Royal Projects could reach 5,000 this year mainly to Thailand-based companies.
TCEB will spend THB5 million promoting the concept to the private sector.
Companies can also apply for subsidies such as an airline fare grant of THB1,000 for each traveller in a group of more than 20 people. There is also a THB500 allowance per traveller for bus transport for a group of more than 50 persons. The support is open to companies up until 30 September this year.
TCEB claims Thailand’s domestic MICE will reach 15.23 million domestic travellers generating THB33,069 million in revenue compared to 14.5 million travellers circulating THB31,493.9 million last year. The estimates are at best guesses with very little supporting research to substantiate the claims.
Thailand’s MICE United is the collaboration with 10 organisations including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Thai Airways International, Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association (RSTA), Bangkok Riverside Marketing Partnership, Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA), the Thai Exhibition Association (TEA), True Corporation, Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) in addition to the newest partner the Royal Thai Army Tourism Organisation.
