KHANH HOA There has been a sharp rise in Chinese visitors to Khanh Hoa province in Vietnam and local authorities hope it will offset the significant drop in Russian arrivals.
The central coastal province relies heavily on tourism and the Russian market was one of the strongest suppliers.
Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Tourism Association vice chairman, Nguyen Van Thanh, told local media that charter flights from China had helped to offset the decline and this should continue through to July.
“There are three or four charter flights a week from China, and we re expecting as many as 10 a week during July.”
inside no 1Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism deputy director, Phan Thanh Truc, noted that nearly all of the Chinese visitors are travelling on charters and tours pre-paid to Chinese tour operators.
While the province is relying on charter flights there are also hints that schedule flights could follow soon. That would give the province a year-round flow of tourists from China.
China remains the biggest visitor-generating market in Vietnam and charter flights are the core factors driving the increase to destinations such as Danang and Khanh Hoa.
Nation-wide, there has been a drop in Chinese travel, but there are now signs of a rebound in bookings that should see Vietnam close 2015 with a positive growth rate over the 2014 performance.
Data from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism showed 537,000 Chinese visits were recorded, January to April, a year-on-year drop of 33.2%.
In 2014, Khanh Hoa welcomed nearly 33,000 Chinese visitors, an 18% increase from a year earlier.
The province has targeted 4 million tourists, this year, with 1 million international holidaymakers.
Khanh Hoa is well-known for its beautiful beaches, particularly the Nha Trang Bay, often voted among the most beautiful in the world.
The province, on Vietnam’s south central coast, enjoys the second largest economy of the central region after Danang.
Noted for its attractive beaches and natural landscape the province is famous for its deep water bays; the most noteworthy, Cam Ranh, is also close to Cam Ranh International Airport one of the busiest in the country.
Russia has always been the top market for the province’s tourism industry followed by South Korea, Australia, China and Belgium. China has now taken the lead.
