“Experience Macau – Fuzhou, Fujian” opens with interactive exhibition to promote the city’s tourism diversity

Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) is holding in the city of Fuzhou, in Fujian province, a “Experience Macau – Fuzhou, Fujian” promotion, to showcase Macau’s tourism diversity to Fujian residents, as well as boost exchanges and cooperation between Fujian and Macau travel trade operators. Macau Chief Executive Chui Sai On and Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam Chon Weng attended on May 20 the welcome dinner and opening ceremony of the event.

“Experience Macau – Fuzhou, Fujian” promotion is organized by the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and the Fujian Provincial People's Government, and presented by MGTO, the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial People’s Government and Fujian Tourism Provincial Bureau. The event, held from 20 to 31 this month in Fuzhou, features a large-scale exhibition to promote Macau’s tourism.

MSAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On, Deputy Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee and Fujian Governor Su Shulin, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam, Deputy Secretary-General of Fujian Provincial People’s Government Wang Yongli, Fujian Tourism Provincial Bureau Director Zhu Hua, Chief-of-Cabinet of the Office of MSAR Chief Executive O Lam, Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial People’s Government Deputy Director Lin Xuefeng, and MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes presided over the “Experience Macau – Fuzhou, Fujian” opening ceremony held at C&D Hotel on May 20. Fujian Provincial People's Government Deputy Governor Zheng Xiaosong attended the welcome dinner and delivered speech.

At the welcome dinner, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam expressed that Macau is moving efforts in all fronts to build a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, as well as to gear its economy towards a moderate diversification development, while exploring more tourism elements and products. Fujian and Macau maintain close tourism cooperation, particularly on multi-destination tourism, and through the two places’ common connection to A-Ma culture, linking Fujian and Macau for the exchange and development on culture, tourism and relationship. The Secretary also mentioned that under the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative of China, Macau will utilize the advantages associated with its history and culture, to strengthen cooperation with different provinces and cities, jointly build up and promote Maritime Silk Road tourism brand, thus fostering regional tourism development and pursuing mutual benefits. During the dinner, MGTO presented not only a martial arts hologram performance with the appearance of internationally and nationally awarded wushu athlete Jiarui, but also Portuguese folk dances, for guests, travel trade operators and media to appreciate in a new format the traditional cultural performances.

In addition, MGTO Director, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, joined by 16 members of the Tourism Development Committee (CDT) and 15 Macau travel industry representatives, attended today (20) an “Experience Macau – Fuzhou, Fujian” tourism promotional seminar. MGTO presented at the seminar Macau’s tourism resources and provided an update on the city’s tourism situation, followed by a luncheon for Fujian and Macau travel trade operators to exchange and conduct businesses contacts. Fujian Tourism Provincial Bureau Director Zhu Hua and Deputy Director Chen Yihui also attended the seminar.

Interactive exhibition promotes Macau’s tourism products diversity“Experience Macau – Fuzhou, Fujian” exhibition will be held from May 20 to 31 at the Sanfang Qixiang (or the ‘Three Lanes and Seven Alleys’) Pavilion, in Nanhou Street. The exhibition is divided into different areas: MSAR Establishment 15 Years of Achievements Display Area, Video Mapping Display Area, Cultural and Creative Display Area, Festivities and Events Display Area, World Heritage Display Area, New Infrastructures and Hotels Display Area, and Tourism Information Area. Interactive elements and games have also been incorporated in the exhibition, so that Fujian residents can learn more about Macau’s tourism resources and development in a fresh and interesting way, while promoting a diversified image of the city’s tourism. Visitors can also produce and print on site their own Macau postcards as souvenir. The 11-day exhibition is expected to attract 1.1 million visitors. The MSAR delegation together with MGTO, CDT, travel trade, performers and media totaled 155 persons attended the opening ceremony in Fuzhou.

Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes welcomes Fujian and Macau travel trade to promotional seminar

Fujian is Macau’s second main source of visitors in the Mainland by province, after Guangdong. Last year, Macau welcomed more than 21 million visitors from the Mainland, up by 14.1 per cent year on year, among which more than 900 thousand were from Fujian.

MGTO is one of the members of “China Maritime Silk Road Tourism Promotion Alliance”. Established on May 8 in Xiamen, under the guidance of China National Tourism Administration, and initiated by Fujian Tourism Provincial Bureau, the alliance includes among its members the tourism authorities of ten coastal provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) along the Maritime Silk Road, namely Fujian, Hebei, Tianjin, Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan, as well as Hong Kong and Macau. The alliance seeks to congregate the tourism resources of the Maritime Silk Road, to jointly build up a Maritime Silk Road tourism brand, in order to boost regional tourism economy development.
