Vietnam Airlines eyes Mumbai

HO CHI MINH CITY Vietnam Airlines wants to open a direct route between Ho Chi Minh City and Mumbai this winter (November to April).
VietNamNet Bridge media quoted the Indian ambassador to Vietnam, Preeti Saran, as saying the move had the green light from both governments as part of a wider effort to increase bilateral trade and tourism links.
Last November, Indian airline, Jet Airways, launched a route from Mumbai to Ho Chi Minh City, but via Bangkok. However, the route is not popular due to the long travelling time according to the ambassador.
India is the world’s second most populous country, with economic growth rate in 2014 of 8%.
inside no 3Vietnam Transport Minister Dinh La Thang said airlines were looking at possible routes linking India and Vietnam.
The obvious choice would be a Mumbai- Ho Chi Minh City flight to link the two commercial hubs, but there will also be political pressure to consider a route between the two political capitals; Hanoi and New Delhi.
Vietnam Airlines confirmed it hopes to launch a direct flight between Ho Chi Minh City – Mumbai this November.
Vietnam Airlines has a codeshare with India’s Jet Airways from Bangkok and Singapore to Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi. Flights are on Vietnam Airlines.
