STR Global announces partnership with Kyoto CVB

04 Jun 2015  2038 | World Travel News

STR Global, the leading provider of global hotel data, has partnered with the Kyoto Convention & Visitors Bureau (KCVB), advocator of meetings, conferences and events in Kyoto, Japan, to share information with partner hotels in the market.

“STR Global is proud to announce a partnership with the Kyoto Convention & Visitors Bureau, our company’s first with any CVB in Japan”, said Elizabeth Winkle, managing director of STR Global. “We look forward to providing hotel performance data that will help the KCVB with its analysis. At the same time, this partnership will allow STR Global to build a greater sample in a growing tourist market. Our data will provide a benchmarking service to all Kyoto hotels and beyond, providing each with a better understanding of their performance within the market”.

Comprised of scenic and historic Japanese culture, the Kyoto hotel market reported an occupancy level of 90.3 percent for April 2015 even with a 3.3-percent decrease in year-over-year comparisons.

Also in year-over-year comparisons, Kyoto has reported double-digit increases in average daily rate (ADR) for each of the last seven months and double-digit increases in revenue per available room (RevPAR) for six of the last seven months.

“I’m very excited to launch a new partnership with STR Global and the Kyoto Convention & Visitors Bureau”, said Mr. Akahoshi, managing director of the KCVB. “Kyoto, which was ranked No. 1 on the worldwide Travel + Leisure Magazine Top Cities list in 2014, still does marketing promotion with local expertise. Therefore, we suffered from a lack of hotel market data for a long time. In order to shift to a new mode for successful tourism promotion, it is essential for us to do data analysis with STR Global and monitor global markets in a timely manner. I believe that STR Global will become our valued partner to extend our data analysis and strengthen further tourism promotion throughout Kyoto”.

STR Global is the largest hotel benchmarking service in Japan with more than 500 properties and 130,000 rooms represented in its most recent report for April.

“We are delighted to establish this close partnership and look forward to a long-term relationship that will prove highly beneficial to travel and tourism in Kyoto and Japan”, said Jesper Palmqvist, Asia Pacific area director for STR Global. “The partnership is a natural fit that is applied in numerous other locations around the world, where our data provides valuable insights to tourism organizations. We will also benefit from the regional expertise the Kyoto CVB provides. It’s inspiring to see how the Kyoto CVB continues to lead by example at the forefront of understanding and using data intelligence to optimise the tourism offering their great destination provides”.
