The Perth Convention Bureau (PCB) Aspire Program concluded for the year with over fifty applications. With only 10 awards available there was incredibly strong competition amongst all applicants wanting to secure the opportunity to receive professional development funding to attend and attract conferences to Western Australia.

Dr Paola Chivers, the winner of the University of Notre Dame Australia award has been successful in securing Perth’s bid to host the 12th International Conference on Development Disorder 2017. “It’s been a fantastic opportunity to apply and win the 2015 University of Notre Dame Australia Professional Development Award. This has enabled us to put together a very professional bid which we have just discovered has been successful" said Dr Chivers. “I am extremely excited to be working with the Perth Convention Bureau to deliver a great event for Western Australia”.

Other winners included; Dr Heidi Stieglitz Ham (Autism and Language Intervention – WA) winner of the City of Perth Convention Scholarship, Ms Jessica Richards (Kidsafe WA) winner of Giving West Scholarship, Ms Michelle Bateman (Citizen Advocacy South Metropolitan Inc.) winner of City of Mandurah Scholarship, Dr Oktay Erten & Professor Kerry Brown (Curtin University), Dr Robert Cunningham & Ms Tara McLaren (The University of Western Australia), Dr Greg Lopez (Murdoch University), and Dr Jennifer Loh (Edith Cowan University).

City of Perth (COP) is a founding member of PCB and continues to be a major stakeholder and sponsor of the Aspire Awards “City of Perth” Convention Scholarship. COP continues to recognise the importance of business tourism and its role in underpinning the development of the city’s accommodation and venue infrastructure. PCB CEO, Paul Beeson commented “the program has been responsible for contributing more than 100 million dollars to the WA economy as well as playing a key role in securing conferences that have and will continue to contribute to advancing the State’s broad expertise and knowledge in a wide range of industries”.

Held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Thursday 28th May, the Awards were presented by Master of Ceremonies, Narelda Jacobs, and winning applicants joined a number of prestigious guests including The Right Hon. the Lord Mayor, Lisa-M. Scaffidi to celebrate the winners’ achievements. The event was supported by Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, AV Partners, The West Australian Newspapers and The Scene Team.

This program is now in its 12th year and the Perth Convention Bureau welcomes interested applicants for 2016 to contact [email protected] or visit the website www.pcb.com.au.

Funded by the West Australian Government through Tourism WA and by the City of Perth, the Perth Convention Bureau drives the business events sector in Perth and Western Australia by securing large, high yield conference events and marketing the City and State as a premium conference destination.
