BANGKOK Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office executive director, Jens Thraenhart, made a last-minute bid to drum up support for the upcoming Mekong Tourism Forum 2015 at Thailand Travel Mart Plus 2015 on Thursday.
MTF 2015 will take place 15 to 19 June in Danang, Vietnam, under the theme of Unlocking the Potential of the GMS via Innovative Partnerships.
The forum is the annual tourism gathering for the six nations of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, and China’s Yunnan and Guangxi provinces).
“MTF will present opportunity for those in the GMS tourism industry to meet and discuss travel issues related to the region,” he said.
inside no 2The event will present marketing workshop for both the private and public sectors on product development aligned to a new marketing strategy as well as focus on key themes and thematic routes in the GMS that focus on food, cruises, community based tourism and adventure tourism.
He said: “Social media is now a hot topic and a tool to develop the tourism industry…then there is a session emphasising this trend.”
Mekong Tourism Social Media Boot-Camp will educate the industry on the importance of digital, social, and mobile. The event will feature experts from Facebook, TripAdvisor, Dragon Trail (China), Rezgo (Canada), and Guiddoo (India).
An investment summit will provide debates on investment opportunities, risks, and challenges in the GMS by hospitality and transport experts and bankers.
In addition, Mekong Tourism Symposium the main component of a collection of four events under the forum banner will focus on “Unlocking the Potential of the GMS via Innovative Partnerships”.
All these opportunities to network, talk and debate come at no cost.
“We decided not to charge a registration fee this year…. It will be easy for the industry to participate at the main symposium, a social media boot camp, a marketing workshop and the investment summit,” he said.
Delegates have to cover their own travel and hotel expenses. Registration and hosted lunches and dinners are included.
