Travel agents chase long-tails

BANGKOK  Trav Pax Academy is due to host its second Trav Pax Academy in Hua Hin, 19 to 20 June, following on from its successful inaugural event in Singapore last year.
Travel agents face challenging times as more mobile apps become available that offer travel solution directly to consumers, said Dror Maytal, who heads Insource Asia that organises the academy event.
Insource Asia’s Trav Pax offers travel firms a system that provides online presence with a full inventory of travel related products with real-time bookings for just about evey product a traveller would want to buy.
“We are powering around 60 agents and tours operators in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Korea, India, Egypt and Dubai,” Maytal explained.
inside no 7“The system is powering over 5,800 bookings a day for all clients in B2B and B2C domains.”
But the Academy’s half-day presentation in Hua Hin will once more underscore, Maytal’s message to travel agents that if they are not online they are already boxed into a corner with no chance of long-term survival.
He believes the solution is not to copy the big online travel agencies, noting there are around three or four that dominate the market in Asia Pacific.
The solution, he says is to do online what you did best as a traditional travel company, but tap online channels including mobile app capabilities to offer the entire travel experience to customers.
Stay specialised, but connected appears to be the message of the academy for travel companies looking to re-invent themselves
“This year we will focus on long-tail, up-sell and cross sell capabilities for a range of services such as sightseeing, transfers and tours now available worldwide.”
“We will talk about the new challenges in the market due to unlimited choices offered everywhere to anyone who wishes to travel and how the online changed in few years from strongly recommended for any agent to mandatory and critical for business survival.”
Around 75 participants will attend to hear presentations from Hotelbeds (TUI), Wex Master card virtual card and Scott Blume former Wotif Group CEO and Bernard Quek head of GHS CRM and social media system.
