Myanmar hosts hospitality event

SINGAPORE  The 3rd annual Myanmar Hospitality and Tourism Conference opened in Nay Pyi Taw, Tuesday, with more than 200 delegates from 15 countries according to the organisers, Sphere Conferences.
Supported by Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, and jointly-organised by Sphere Conferences and the Myanmar Tourism Federation, MHTC 2015 is the country’s only dedicated conference for hospitality professionals based in the Asia Pacific region.
The event, hosted at the Kempinski Hotel will close later today, 10 June.
Hospitality professionals discussed challenges and opportunities in Myanmar’s booming hospitality and tourism sector focusing on investment, owner-operator relationship and ways to enhance customer experience as well as dealing with HR challenges in the country.
inside no 6Government organisations and non-government associations that were present included Lux Dev, GIZ, Myanmar Tourism Federation, Myanmar Hotelier Association, Myanmar Tourism Marketing and Union of Myanmar Travel Association. Private companies from Myanmar and the region included Amazing Group, Amara Hotel, Centara Hotels & Resorts, Dusit International, Home Box Office, Hotel @ Tharabar Gate, Kempinski Hotel, Myat Min Group, MasterCard Asia, Melia Hotels International, Novotel Yangon Max, Review Pro, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Savills, Sedona Hotel Yangon, Sule Shangri-La, Summit Parkview Hotel and Tangram Hotels.
Speaking at the conference Keppel Land Myanmar president, GOH York Lin, said: “Myanmar is only at the beginning of a long-run economic growth. Investors with a strategic entry plan will be better rewarded than those who take on opportunistic ventures.”
The conference also included a panel to discuss “Nay Pyi Taw as the new MICE Destination”, a subject the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism is pushing as there are close to 8,000 hotel rooms in capital and two conventions centre and a new international airport that need to attract more business.
Union Minister, Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, UHtayAung said: “In 2014, Myanmar received over 3 million tourists with a growth rate of 51%. We hosted the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2015 in January this year, and this helped to enhance the country’s tourism growth.”
ATF was held in Nay Pyi Taw and at that event private sector organisations pressed the government to provide more incentives to attract events related business in the capital.
