Oman welcomes eight new tourism projects

The Ministry of Tourism is seeking investments in a number of major projects which are proposed to come up in different governorates of the Sultanate.

The projects include an environment tourist camp, adventure tourism centre, entertainment centre and chalets, tourism recreation centre and four three star hotels.

“The eight new projects to be launched at a number of tourism lands in different governorates are aimed at boosting tourism and generate investment opportunities for small and medium enterprises,” mentioned an official at the ministry.

Investing in tourism has become a common feature of Oman’s economic plans. The total volume of investment as part of the long-term Oman Tourism Strategy (2015-2040) is estimated at US$35 billion including cost of infrastructure.

According to the official, preparation for the tourism strategy is in an advanced stage and will be unveiled in September this year. Although the environmental tourist camp is to be constructed in North Batinah Governorate, the other seven investment projects are scheduled for both north and south Sharqiyah and Al Dahirah governorates.

Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, had earlier said that new projects including new heritage houses and artefacts markets would be launched in different governorates of the Sultanate.
