Grand Sale underway

BANGKOK The Tourism Authority of Thailand is partnering with Visa and some of Thailand’s biggest shops and brands to promote the annual Amazing Thailand Grand Sale, which started last week and runs until 15 August.
Seven tourist destinations are Grand Sale venues; Bankok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Hat Yai, Pattaya, Hua Hin and Udon Thani.
This year, to promote TAT’s 2015 Discover Thainess tourism campaign, shoppers who wear traditional Thai dress will enjoy extra discounts and perks in many of the participating stores.
TAT’s Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, Vilaiwan Twichasri, and Visa Thailand country manager, Somboon Krobteeranon, officially declared the Grand Sale open 15 June.
inside no 6The Amazing Thailand Grand Sale has grown year-on-year since its inception in 1998, and has to-date become the biggest event of its kind in the kingdom with 15,000 shops in 110 malls and shopping centres up and down the kingdom taking part in offering discounts of between five and 80% on certain goods.
This year campaign will return with “Travel 365 Days in Thailand” grand prize, whereby winners are entitled to bring a friend to visit Thailand for up to 10 days in each month of the year, with roundtrip air tickets and hotel accommodation provided.
Last year, the winners came from Penang, Malaysia and Bangkok, Thailand.
Thai and foreign shoppers who Thai traditional dress will be able to get bargains and privileges at 20 malls. Participating venues in the sale can be easily found by looking for the ‘Red Bag’ symbol displayed in shops.
