At an industry showcase of the world class convention, exhibition and entertainment destination in Sydney, International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) confirmed it would run at least 20 events to test and commission every centimetre of the venue over a three month period before it opens in December 2016.

ICC Sydney Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Donaghy provided an update on the venue, sharing the reception and excitement with which the venue is being met by local and global clients as well as an insight into the opening schedule for the nation’s leading meetings and events venue.

“ICC Sydney will open fully tested and commissioned in December 2016. As the operator of the venue, AEG Ogden has three months prior to opening to ensure every element of the venue is functioning to its world class benchmark. This has the added benefit of ensuring our staff are trained in situ for every event type and previewing the venue to business and local communities ahead of opening,” Mr Donaghy said.

NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, the Hon. Andrew Constance MP opened the event with an address outlining the Government’s vision for Sydney’s premier business events and entertainment precinct and providing an update on construction.

“ICC Sydney is the centrepiece of a $3.4 billion transformation of Darling Harbour that will completely reinvent the way business events are delivered in our great city,” Minister Constance said.

“Construction of ICC Sydney is well advanced, with the convention, exhibition and entertainment buildings fast emerging from the ground and some aspects of the façade now being installed."

“This project is tracking along apace; structural steel installation and concrete structural works are progressing and about 1.8 million man hours have already been put in to build this incredible new destination,” the Minister said.

ICC Sydney’s industry showcase provided an opportunity for attendees to meet the strengthening and highly experienced management team as they shared with local representatives the innovative and engaging ways in which ICC Sydney is being marketed.

“The showcase provided us with an opportunity to excite the industry with our progress and reassure our communities that we are on track for a December 2016 opening”, said Mr Donaghy.
