TAT hosts action plan conference

CHONBURI  Just days before the Tourism Authority of Thailand releases it marketing plan to the country’s travel industry more than 400 TAT officials are gathered at Bangsaen beach resort for their action plan conference.
The conference which reviews the marketing plan will close 2 July and delegates move to Bangkok for the Tourism Marketing Plan presentation to the trade Monday, 6 July.
Commenting on future direction, Minister of Tourism and Sports, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, emphasised the need to count on quality tourism rather than numbers.
“In line with the Royal Thai Government’s key economic policies to promote economic development towards stability, prosperity and sustainability. Thailand’s tourism industry has increasingly becoming more important, and in order to achieve higher tourism revenue, the government is promoting close collaborations among all stakeholders with transparency, synergy and quick action.”
inside no 6Quality, which really means high-spend tourism, is often citied as the priority benchmark rather than tourist numbers, but there is still a preoccupation with head counts to the point where overland traders may have been included in the grand totals.
But the revenue is likely to pour in prompting Thailand to target THB 2.2 trillion for this year, including THB1.4 trillion from an estimated 28.8 international tourists.
“For 2016, the government expects Thailand’s tourism to generate an income of THB2.3 trillion. The amount is anticipated to grow further to THB2.5 trillion in 2017,” the minister explained.
TAT board chairman, Kalin Sarasin noted: “TAT must focus on core policies for next year’s tourism promotion plans, including connectivity and collaboration; strengthening the Amazing Thailand brand legacy and continuing the Thainess brand success; more quality tourism – enhancing promotions of tourism products that generate higher revenue and preparing efficient and professional resources to keep up with the expected tourism growth.”
Preparation for thee TAT Action Plan began last December through a number of meetings with a network of partners both in Thailand and overseas.
The Tourism Marketing Plan 2016 will be presented to partners, stakeholders, media, Monday 6 July, at 1800 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.
