Hong Kong Airlines sponsors Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival

HONG KONG - Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival drew to a successful close on July 5. Under the thundering sounds of drums and cheers, over four thousand of the world’s top dragon boat athletes battled it out at the three-day Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races. Hong Kong Airlines, the Official Carrier Sponsor of the carnival, partners with the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association this year to promote this annual sporting event, which is important to both traditional culture and the sporting world. In three days of intense racing, spotlights were not only on the world-class races - the oldest event in the history of modern dragon boat racing, but also on the special “Hong Kong Airlines Fancy Dress Race”. Energetic local and overseas paddlers in creative costumes competed fiercely in the race for the Best Costume Award. Hong Kong Airlines staff also joined the race, parading their Egyptian costumes around Victoria Harbour.

The intense competition among dragon boat teams with special costumers adds colors to the traditional dragon boat races. Congratulations to all winning teams which did a great job and their outstanding performance made the event."

Days of fierce racing filled the harbour with heart-stopping action and clamor of cheers. And on the last day of the Carnival staging "Hong Kong Airlines Fancy Dress Race", the stunning ambiance of sounds and laughters reached its peak when cartoon characters"striked" Victoria Harbour with paddles. They showcased their creative costumes along the harbour. “Hong Kong Airlines Water Jets”, a team made up of Hong Kong Airlines staff, dressed in glamorous Egyptian costumes won rounds of applause and cheers from audiences for their youthful energy. The team finally won the first runner-up in the race.

A game booth was set up at Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade where the public had much fun and won amazing prizes. Participants made a party out of the ancient dragon boat races and indulged with spectacular music performance by FLY, Hong Kong Airlines music band and had the happy moments captured with Hong Kong Airlines’ flight attendants at the booth.
