BANGKOK Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation is cutting entrance fees for Thais at all of its national parks in order to promote weekday tourism.
DNP chief, Nipol Chotiban, said the campaign started 1 July and will continue until the end of this year to support domestic travel in the country in line with the government policy to boost weekday tourism.
inside no 3“Thai nationals will get a 50% discount on entrance fees if they visit from Mondays to Fridays at all 147 national parks nationwide. The campaign is not valid on weekends or public holiday.”
However, full admission fees remain in place for foreigners. They are considered discriminatory by many overseas visitors. The decision to cut fees on weekdays supports the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s domestic campaign.
However, tour operators point out that a similar weekday concession would be a very positive step that would reassure visitors that Thailand is adopting fair and non discriminatory fee structures at government management parks countrywide as example for private sector attractions.
Thai seniors 60 years or over are eligible for free entrance to all national parks.
