The incident happened late Sunday evening when the resort beach road was packed with tourists.
A small speedboat anchored in the path of the runaway vessel was swept aside.

inside no 7It is an ancient maritime tradition that sea captains stay on deck until the boat sinks, but in this case it was 3 metres on dry land, engine running when police officers arrived.
When the skipper refused to disembark, officers boarded the beached vessel to make the arrest.
Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has vowed to upgrade tourism in Thailand turning it into a quality destination that can command higher prices and earn more revenue for the country.
Part of the ministry’s responsibility is to coordinate safety regulations that touch on tourism and it is likely that stricter rules will apply to tourist boat skippers including breathalyzer tests similar to the ones proposed for tour bus drivers. Reducing the number of drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, should help reduce accidents involving tourism related transport.
