Golf Tourism In South East Asia A Rapidly Growing Niche

Southeast Asia has long been recognized as a premier golfing destination, with this sector of the tourism industry attracting thousands of visitors every year to experience world class golf courses, exotic cuisines, deluxe accommodation options and of course the white sand beaches of the region.  Two of the prominent golf tourism locations of Southeast Asia are Malaysia and Thailand, but this trend is catching on fast amongst other neighboring countries. Sameer Poonja, E-Commerce Director of Exotissimo Travel, a premier destination management company in Southeast Asia said, “…golf tourism is an excellent market to service. Golf enthusiasts usually have more time to spend in the region and experience not only courses that are different to the ones that they have at home but in climates that are just unbeatable.”

Exotissimo Travel has tours that let travelers explore golf courses in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. They can also provide customized tours in Indonesia, with extension to their Southeast Asia holiday in Laos and Myanmar. “We are always trying to offer something unique to our clients and while they know that golf in Thailand is on par to some of the best course in the world, we try to educate our clients on courses in other parts of the region which are equivalent or better. One of the best examples is Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf and Spa in Siem Reap, known for the superior accommodation and the country’s top golf course as part of the resort. We have been promoting our Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Golf Packages and with Laos & Myanmar developing international standard courses, we would be proud to include those experiences in our portfolio…” said Sameer.

Yangon Golf Club and Pun Hlaing Golf Club are two of the many golf courses in Myanmar. Laos also has a few good courses especially around Luang Prabang, the UNESCO Heritage City, and several other being developed with investments coming from Vietnam and other countries.
