Danang on clean beach mission

DANANG Danang authorities are warning citizens and visitors they will be fined for littering the city’s beaches.
The campaign attempts to instill better civic behaviour in public places and promote a clean and safe environment for tourism.
The fines are minimal at USD2.4 to USD4.8 for beach littering.
But residents who throw rubbish outside of their dustbins, or in public areas where there are no trashcans available will be fined USD9.5.
inside no 3The fines increase for urinating or defecating in public places to USD14.3.
The city’s culture, sport and tourism department vice director, Tran Chi Cuong, said the campaign will run until September with special attention to tourism areas in Ngu Hanh Son and Son Tra districts.
“We are educating local people in these districts to set a good example of cleanliness. At first we will warn local residents, restaurant owners and tourists and then fine if them if they persist in littering,” he said.
The education and communication programme was launched in June and the decision to impose penalties was taken in 15 July, he said.
The central city attracted 2 million tourists in the first six months this year, of which 600,000 were foreigners, a 25% growth year-on-year.
The main attractions are its beaches that lie on the outskirts of the city. There are golf courses.
