PHUKET  Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau has signed a pact with Phuket province to boost the events business on the popular holiday island.
TCEB strategic and business development vice president, Supawan Teerarat, said Phuket is already popular destination for events but the business can grow.
“We will formulate strategies that will encourage events that will add value to the local economy.”
TCEB says it will launch a campaign it calls “D-MICE: Meeting in Thailand” that will attempt to promote MICE Cities in the Andaman (Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga, Ranong and Trang).
inside no 4There will also be a focus on introducing Royal Projects as sites for specialised conferences.
Domestic exhibition businesses could grow and TCEB has identified Food and Hotelex 2015 that will be hosted in Phuket, 19 to 22 November, this year, as a lead event that could attract other fairs.
Phuket is also an ideal destination for team building and for companies to link their CSR programmes to projects such as preservation of mangrove forests and the creation of artificial coral habitats.
Royal Projects can also feature as leaning centres, while a green meeting concept can be developed through stakeholders in the hotel industry on Phuket.
TCEB intends to open a MICE promotion and information centre in Phuket in the future.
MICE is an acronym for ‘Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions,’ but is is often known simply as ‘events,’ to avoid confusing it with the common household pest.
