The world’s foremost researchers and practitioners from data mining, knowledge discovery, data analytics and big data converge at Hilton Sydney from 10-13 August 2015.

The 21st ACM Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining conference (KDD15) is considered the premier conference in big data and data mining in the world.

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism & Major Events, Stuart Ayres MP welcomed the event and confirmed he will be a guest speaker during the conference.

“This is the first time Australia has ever hosted this prestigious event and it is only the second time it has been held in the Asia Pacific region."

“It’s a great opportunity to highlight Australian achievements in big data."

“Worth more than A$2 million to our economy, this conference will also support thousands of jobs,” Minister Ayres added.

Business Events Sydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith said winning this prestigious conference for Sydney was a major milestone, considered the most influential global event in big data.

“This conference is usually held in the northern hemisphere and is unlikely to return to Australia for many years,” said Ms Lewis-Smith.

“We’re proud to host a stellar line up of industry leaders speaking about big data from Microsoft, Google, HP, Amazon, Alibaba, Huawei, Google, Groupon and Facebook."

“This is an unprecedented summit for Australian audiences to gain a better understanding of the future of big data and analytics while networking with the many of the world’s best," she added.

KDD15 General Chair and Director of the Advanced Analytics Institute at University of Technology Sydney, Professor Longbing Cao said over 1,000 participants would attend.

“This event will provide an opportunity to develop Australian innovation, enterprise and improve education outcomes through idea exchange and collaboration,” said Professor Cao.

“64% of the nation's technology start-ups are based in New South Wales and Sydney is home to more than two thirds of Australia's ICT headquarters, so it’s no wonder Sydney was chosen to be the first-ever Australian host city," he added.

KDD15 will cover the education, public policy, industry, government, healthcare, e-commerce, telecommunications, law and non-profit sectors.

The event is co-located with the Big Data Summit, held 9-10 August, at Hilton Sydney.
