ITDC puts up stable performance in Q1, 2015-16

India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), the public sector undertaking under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism, posted a stable performance for first quarter of the current financial year 2015-16. The total turnover in quarter ending June 2015 stood at Rs.105.96 cr as compared to Rs.103.63 cr in the corresponding quarter last year. The company registered Net Profit Before Tax (PBT) at Rs.2.77 cr and Net Sales at Rs.96.95 cr as compared to Rs.0.30 cr and Rs.96.19 cr respectively in the corresponding quarter last year i.e. 2014-15.

These details were announced in the Board of Directors’ meeting of the company today on 14th August, 2015 at the Group’s flagship hotel, The Ashok, New Delhi.

Buoyed by the positive market sentiment after the NDA government came into power, the tourism sector has seen renewed impetus helping ITDC to post a robust performance in the last financial year. In Q 1, 2015-16 the momentum generated in the last financial year seem to have continued posting profit yet again. Also, The Ashok group of hotels has been in the forefront of innovative marketing initiatives ensuring consistency in sales and occupancy. The company has registered an occupancy rate of 47% compared to 45% in the corresponding quarter last year.

In line with the Government’s vision of Skill Development, ITDC has set up a Center of Excellence at Hotel Samrat, New Delhi. The Ashok Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Management (AIH&TM) has formalised collaboration with National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) to offer a course in B.Sc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration (HHA) with its first batch already commenced. The institute is responsible for imparting skills and professional training to the youth in the areas of hospitality and Hotel Administration.
India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has implemented a Sound and Light show project at Shanti Stupa, Dhauli, Odisha. The theme of Kalinga War and conversion of King Ashoka from ‘Chandashoka’ to ‘Dharmashoka’ will be portrayed in three languages on all days of the week except Monday.

ITDC participated in food festivals organised by Ministry of Tourism in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Uzbekistan promoting best of Indian cuisine in these countries.
