SINGAPORE Here is a list of the world’s five most dangerous cities compiled by popular website About Travel.Com and Bangkok is not on it.
Thailand’s tourism promoters can breathe a sigh of relief that the latest About Travel’s assessment on the world’s most dangerous cities gives the Thai capital a wide berth.
About Travel based its five deadly destinations on homicide rates collated by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
All five destinations are in South and Central America with homicide rates in excess of 60 per 100,000 population, compared to just 4 per 100,000 in Bangkok.

inside no 9Caracas, Venezuela tops the list with the author noting that it is no secret that Venezuelans have been living in tough times, and in particular following the death of former leader Hugo Chavez, prices have risen astronomically.
Economic inequality is one of the main reasons murder rates in Caracas are so high, at nearly 116 homicides per 100,000 residents – the highest of any large city in the world.
Acapulco, Mexico
Acapulco has long had a reputation as a leading beach destination, but violence associated with Mexican drug cartels has resulted not only in the murders of many Mexicans caught in the drug trade, but also some innocent tourists.

The Brazilian city of Fortaleza is famous for its beautiful beaches, as well as its proximity to legendary Brazilian tourist spots like Jericoacoara and the Lençóis Maranhenses.Fortaleza’s murder rate of 66 homicides per 100,000 residents remains alarmingly high.

San Salvador, El Salvador
Central American cities are notorious for being unsafe, to the point where many travel blogs and guide books recommend avoiding them altogether. In the capital of El Salvador, 61 out of every 100,000 residents die here each year as a result of homicide.
