HO CHI MINH CITY Vietnam will develop island, sports and cultural tourism in the north of the country over the next 15 years according to a detailed long-term zoning plan.
Saigon Times reported that Deputy Minister Vu Duc Dam signed off on Decision No. 1355/QD-TTg approving a master zoning plan for culture, sports and tourism development in the Northern Key Economic Zone until 2025 with an economic vision extending to 2030.
The northern region, that encompasses Hanoi, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong and Quang Ninh, could attract 55 million local and international travellers by 2030 and serve as a gateway for tourism to neighbouring China and Laos.
Over the next 10 years, tourism planners believe the region could attract 9 million international visitors, about 1.2 million higher than international arrivals to the entire country last year and around 26 million local travellers.
inside no 2By 2030, the targets for international arrivals and domestic tourists will be 15 million and 40 million respectively.
Waterways in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh province as well as a rail link with China’s Yunnan province will improve trasnsport.
Seven tourist areas will be developed, including culture-tourism villages of Vietnamese ethnic groups, Ba Vi-Suoi Hai, Tam Dao, Con Son-Kiep Bac, Halong-Cat Ba, Van Don and Tra Co.
