Quang Nam to upgrade handicrafts

QUANG NAM  Quang Nam’s provincial authority plans to open more traditional craft villages to expand its tourism attractions.
Local media reported the province would offer seed money to villages to develop infrastructure, create designs and upgrade handicraft quality to appeal to around 60,000 international tourists who visit the province annually.
Some of the investment will be used to improve road access to handicraft villages.

Craft villages will receive support to participate in tourism promotion programmes, introduce products at exhibitions and trade fairs.
inside no 1The province hopes craft villages could offer employment for up to 3,000 rural workers to supplement their farm earnings.
Quang Nam is the home province of the ancient port of Hoi An and My Son Sanctuary, which have been recognised by UNESCO as World Heritage sites.
The province already has 60 traditional craft villages, but the products need to be improved to appeal to international tourists.
Among the best known are the Phuoc Kieu bronze casting village in Dien Phuong Commune, Dien Ban Town; Kim Bong woodworking village in Cam Kim Commune and Thanh Ha pottery village in Thanh Ha Commune, Hoi An Town.
During the first seven months of this year, the province welcomed nearly 1.9 million visitors, of which 1.2 million were domestic tourists.
