Tourist tips bundled on an app

BANGKOK  Thailand’s Tourists Police Division launched, Monday, what is technically called an Augmented Reality (AR Code) Application, a complicated description for tips on travel in Thailand.
Presented at a media briefing at Suvarnabhumi Airport, the application was billed as an information assistant for travellers that could be download to their smartphones. However, the Tourist Police face the challenge of how to inform tourists in advance that the free service exists.
Distribution was not addressed at the launch, nor the compelling reasons why a tourist would prefer a police application over the wide variety of apps available on the subject from commercial enterprises.
inside no 3Tourist Police Division Commander Pol Maj Gen Suprapone Arunsit said the application will provide basic information on Thai culture, do’s and don’ts as well as tourist destinations including the 12 hidden gem venues under the Discover Thainess campaign.
The application is a 3D cartoon model, with viewing in 360 degrees and is available in three languages–Thai, English and Chinese.
Information that is usually obtained from Tourist Police Stations across the country as well as the Call Centre 1155 will be available on the application.
“The application is expected to boost tourist confidence when travelling around Thailand and to help create a good image of the country,” the commander said.
The application ‘Thailand Tourist Trips and Tips AR Book’ can be download from the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android users.
