inside no 1 The Erawan Shrine bombing in Bangkok, 17 August, curtailed tourist arrivals by around 1.3 million trips, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, but the impact was less than originally estimated and positive trends in travel to the capital were evident by the end of August.
AoT’s data counts passenger disembarkations and embarkations and it includes transit passengers who transfer to flights to other countries without leaving the airside terminal.
During the first eight months of the year, the country’s main gateway, Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport, welcomed 35.90 million passengers followed by Don Mueang with 19.63 million, Phuket 8.61 million and Chiang Mai Airport 5.47 million.
