Thailand travel leaps ahead

BANGKOK  Tourism Council of Thailand estimates international tourists to Thailand will surpass the target to reach 30.30 million visits by year-end, an increase of 22.28% from last year 24.78 million visits.
Tourism revenue is also projected at THB1.42 trillion growing 21.45% from THB1.17 trillion in 2014.
The government forecasts tourism will generate 28.8 million international visitors and THB2.2 trillion in revenue this year, of which THB1.4 trillion from international markets.
Speaking at the council’s press conference, Tuesday, TCT president Ittirit Kinglek said the country’s tourism has recovered and the last quarter of the year and should attract 8.14 million visits up 9.12% over the same quarter last year.
inside no 3In that forecast, 3.26 million visits will be from East Asia (+37.92%), 2.29 million tourists from ASEAN (+20.21%), and 1.35 million from Europe (-21.45%).
For the first nine months of the year, the kingdom received 22.13 million visitors up 27.78% over the same period last year.
Thailand Tourism Confidence Index in Q4 shows a level of 102, which slightly up on the index’s par value, based on input from 600 tour agencies. The benchmark (100) is deemed to be a normal level to encourage business confidence.
“Contrary to earlier forecasts, the explosion at Erawan Shrine, 17 August, did not have a big impact on travel …if there no negative incidents, the country tourism could reach 30.30 million tourist arrivals.”
The president added: “Due to an influx of tourists, we need to ensure and tighten safety and security measures as well as standardise tourism products and services.”
The council international market vice president, Pornthip Hirankate, said Asian tourists is booming from both East and South Asia.
“Asian tourists represent 73% of all arrivals… Asians spend less than European travellers… and the average length of stay and spend per head will decline from 9.85 days generating THB47,271 to 9.3 days generating THB47,010 this year.”
The council expected Chinese tourists to reach 8.12 million visits by year-end. Last year, the country attracted 4,636,298 Chinese tourists, down 0.02% from 4,637,335 in 2013. The May 2014 military coup was blamed for the poor performance. inside-no-3.1
