KIEN GIANG Vietnam Airlines aims to open direct flight connecting Phu Quoc to Seoul in South Korea, this December, according to tourism officials.
Saigon Times Online quoted Kien Giang tourism department deputy director, Nguyen Diep Mai, saying the national carrier is talking to its South Korean partners to launch a Phu Quoc – Seoul route service.
“The provincial tourism sector really hopes the new South Korean service will be launched soon to attract more international tourists, with Vietnam’s National Tourism Year scheduled to take place on the island next year.”
Beach SceneThe route will be the third direct international flight to link the southern Vietnamese island.
Phu Quoc International Airport has flights to Singapore and Cambodia’s Siem Reap.
Flights from Russia have stopped due to a slump in travel demand to Asia due to Russia’s economic woes.
Phu Quoc lies around 45 km offshore from Vietnam’s southern province of Kien Giang.
All travellers can visit Phu Quoc for 30 days,without a visa. They must, either enter through the island’s seaport, or through its airport, after transiting through Hanoi, or Ho Chi Minh City’s international airports.
It welcomed 600,000 visitors, last year, up 37% compared to 2013, according to the Kien Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The island targets 2 to 3 million tourists a year in the next decade.
