BANGKOK The Tourism Authority of Thailand says it fully supports the Pattaya City and relevant authorities in setting up the Jet Ski Tourist Assistance Centre to resolve jet ski-related scams.
The moves to bring jet skis under proper supervision and set strict operational parameters should improve safety and security for tourists according to the TAT.
The Jet Ski Tourist Assistance Centre is under joint supervision of the Chonburi Provincial Authority, the Tourism and Sports Office Chonburi Province, Pattaya Marine Department and Pattaya City.
Jet ski operators have been told to abide by strict zoning regulations issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
inside no 9Only registered jet skis can operate in specific zones identified as Pattaya City (Pattaya Beach), Wongamart beach, Na Jomtien beach and Ko Lan (Coral Island).
Jet ski owners are also required to apply for insurance through the Marine Department and place their insurance stickers on the front of each jet ski.
The sticker also specifies the service area, zoning and owner’s registration number.
The insurance will cover the cost of loss or damage to a rented jet ski. Tourists are advised to make sure the insurance sticker is prominently displayed and is valid.
It was not clarified if the sticker details are in both Thai and English to ensure tourists would be able to read the text.
In case of an incident, the Jet Ski Tourist Assistance Centre will assign a legal advisor to help resolve disputes without filing a complaint with the police.
The Jet Ski Tourist Assistance Centre is located at Pattaya Beach (Pattaya Soi 9), Jomtien Beach (in front of Surf restaurant) and Ko Lan (Coral Island). The centre is open daily from 0900 to 1800.
