YANGON Myanmar signed an Air Service Agreement, last week, with the Netherlands that will allow airlines based in either country to offer direct flight flights.
But aviation officials said there were no immediate plans to start services between the two countries.
Global New Light of Myanmar reported that airlines registered in the two countries could establish up to seven flights weekly.
The aviation agreement between Myanmar and the Netherlands was originally signed in 1951 and was revised in 1977. This is the third time the agreement has been revised to accommodate current trends.
Eleven Myanmar quoted Transport and Communications Deputy Minister U Kyaw Myo saying: “Airlines from both countries have the right to fly services, but at present there are no airlines planning services.”
Myanmar has aviation agreements with about 50 countries, including EU countries, the US and Israel, in addition to neighbouring countries. Myanmar’s earliest aviation agreement was signed with the US in 1949, the report said.
