SINGAPORE - Tourism New Zealand and Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency(WREDA) are excited to welcome visitors from Singapore to the country’s capital city when Singapore Airlines makes its first flight landing in Wellington tomorrow on 21 September.

The new ‘Capital Express’ service connecting Wellington to Singapore via Canberra is Wellington’s first long-haul connection and will operate four times a week using wide-bodied Boeing 777-200 planes.

Steven Dixon, Regional Manager, South and South East Asia at Tourism New Zealand, says the new route provides travellers from Singapore and beyond with a new entry point into New Zealand, providing enhanced connectivity to the country’s capital and surrounding regions.

Labelled as the ‘coolest little capital in the world’ by Lonely Planet, Wellington is a terrific destination for travellers who are looking to experience both urban and natural aspects of New Zealand. Nestled between a sparkling harbour and bush-clad hills, the city has plenty of unique activities all within close proximity."

The ‘Capital Express’ service will make Wellington more accessible to Singapore travellers and we look forward to showcasing the delights our capital city and the diverse attractions of the surrounding regions,” said Mr Dixon.

Adele Fitzpatrick, General Manager Destination and Marketing at WREDA, said visitors to Wellington will fall in love with the compact city, the stunning harbour and hills, the vibrant cultural scene, stylish hotels, brilliant local and international cuisine and the city’s welcoming locals.

Wellington is home to a diverse array of experiences for visitors. You can start your day with world-class coffee, kayak on the harbour in the morning, experience the magic behind The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies at Weta Workshop in the afternoon, and enjoy local craft beer and fresh seafood in the evening."

Wellington is not only the ultimate destination for a city break, but offers great connectivity to the rest of New Zealand for a longer holiday. Visitors can fly into Wellington and enjoy the short drive to the picturesque wine region of the Wairarapa – part of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail – or take the iconic Interislander ferry to New Zealand’s scenic South Island,” said Ms Fitzpatrick.
