Bhutanese King pays respects

BANGKOK His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen of Bhutan are visiting Thailand to pay their personal respects to the Late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej who passed away last Thursday.

His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema of the Kingdom of Bhutan arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Saturday. Upon their arrival, they were welcomed by deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak.

Their Majesties visited Grand Palace, Sunday, to pay their respects to the Late His Majesty King of Thailand, who passed away 13 October at 1552.

inside no 6On the same day HM King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck led a candle-lit ceremony and a praying ceremony for the Late Thai King in Bhutan and announced 14 October as a national mourning day in Bhutan.

The National Bhutanese flags are lowered to half-staff for three days as a mark of respect.

Born on 21 February 1980, HM King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is the fifth and current reigning Druk Gyalpo or “Dragon King” of the Kingdom of Bhutan. He succeeded his father on 9 December 2006.
