Mantra Group announces five new hotel signings

Leading Australian-based hotel and resort operator, Mantra Group, has secured five new hotel signings with a combined total of more than 900 additional rooms across Australia and New Zealand.

The following properties were announced as joining Mantra Group’s portfolio of 126 properties globally:
1. Peppers Southbank, Melbourne VIC
2. Mantra 900 Hay Street, Perth WA
3. Peppers Queenstown Resort, Queenstown NZ
4. Mantra Club Crocodile, Airlie Beach QLD
5. Mantra Observatory, Port Macquarie NSW

Mantra Group Chief Executive Officer Bob East said the properties are located in premier leisure and CBD destinations where Mantra Group has a long-standing and high performing presence.

“This continued growth and development can be attributed to the Group’s surging profile and dominant positioning as a hotel operator of choice,” Mr East said.

“This latest group of acquisitions reinforces the strong momentum in our growth strategy and highlights our ability to convert our pipeline.”

In FY2016, Mantra Group increased its portfolio by 11 new properties, adding more than 3,000 rooms to its inventory, making it Australia’s fastest growing hotel group for the year.

"In acquisition announcements in the first five months of FY2017, we’re well-placed to exceed last year’s record result,” Mr East said.

Peppers Southbank, Melbourne VIC
Melbourne’s high-performing accommodation sector will soon welcome its second Peppers hotel with the announcement Mantra Group will manage a new hotel being constructed in Southbank. Peppers Southbank, a full-service 164 room hotel, is set to open its doors in late 2018 on a prime site on the corner of Clarendon and Haig Streets in Melbourne’s vibrant Southbank precinct. Designed by acclaimed Melbourne architects, Bruce Henderson Architects, the 32 storey hotel will feature a range of onsite leisure and business facilities including a restaurant and bar, meetings rooms, a gymnasium and large outdoor terrace. Peppers Southbank will join nine Mantra Group hotels in Melbourne’s CBD. Construction will commence in the coming months.

Mantra 900 Hay Street, Perth WA
Mantra Group is set to operate a landmark 26 storey hotel in the heart of Perth’s CBD when it opens as Mantra 900 Hay Street in late 2018. The new-build, full-service 4.5 star hotel will appeal to both business and leisure travellers with 250 stylish guest rooms, a signature restaurant with terrace, bar and lounge, meeting rooms, business centre, swimming pool, gymnasium and a rooftop terrace with breathtaking city views. Featuring quality finishes, premier facilities and a second to none CBD location, Mantra 900 Hay Street will increase Mantra Group’s presence in one of Australia’s highest performing capital cities, where the Group currently operates three hotels. Construction of the hotel is scheduled to commence in the coming months.

Peppers Queenstown Resort, Queenstown NZ
Queenstown’s accommodation sector is set for a boost following the announcement that Mantra Group will operate Singaporean based Well Smart Group’s new-build resort development when it opens in December 2018. Peppers Queenstown Resort, a full-service hotel, will offer 260 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites , a restaurant and bar, leisure facilities, and car parking in the heart of New Zealand’s adventure and skiing capital of Queenstown. The new Peppers Queenstown Resort will take pride of place on Shotover Street in Queenstown’s city centre, amongst the city’s finest shopping, dining and nightlife. This acquisition will grow Mantra Group’s portfolio to 12 properties in New Zealand including three properties in Queenstown.

Mantra Club Crocodile, Airlie Beach QLD
Mantra Group has secured the Manage Agreement to operate Airlie Beach’s well known Club Crocodile hotel, as the Whitsundays’ tourism surge continues. The hotel, also owned by Well Smart, will be rebranded Mantra Club Crocodile following a major refurbishment of the 160 room property to return the property to its former glory and bring it up to the premier Mantra brand standards. The hotel will be closed while the refurbishment is carried out to the hotel’s guest rooms, restaurant and bar, conference room, common areas and leisure facilities and will reopen as Mantra Club Crocodile in time for the busy Christmas high-season. Mantra Club Crocodile will be the third Whitsundays property in the Mantra Group portfolio.

Mantra Observatory, Port Macquarie NSW


Mantra Group has acquired the Management and Letting Rights for The Observatory in Port Macquarie, one of the Mid North Coast of New South Wales’ leading, and most awarded, accommodation offerings. The 4.5 star property, which will be rebranded Mantra Observatory, is ideally located opposite Town Beach, Port Macquarie’s main beach, and offers 85 spacious hotel rooms and open plan apartments, an indoor heated lap pool, sauna and heated spa, restaurant and cafe, day spa, gift shop, barbeque entertainment area and secure undercover car parking. Less than 400km north of Sydney and 600km south of Brisbane, Port Macquarie attracts a strong drive market and interstate leisure visitation, well supported by daily flights to Port Macquarie Airport. Mantra Observatory opened in 2004 by previous managers, Southern Cross Resorts Directors Chris and Trish Denny, and is one of Australia’s few certified 100 per cent carbon-neutral hotels. Mantra Observatory will be the fourth NSW North Coast property in the Mantra Group portfolio. Mantra Group will continue to surge ahead with 2017 set to see ongoing portfolio growth, characterised by further acquisitions in key Australian and international destinations.

Mantra Group Regional Director wins Women in Travel Award
Mantra Group Regional Director of Sales and Marketing Megan Pechey is the 2016 Hotel category winner at Australia’s inaugural Women in Travel Awards, announced at a gala event in Sydney.

Judged by a panel of leading executives, the awards recognise and celebrate the industry’s breadth of female excellence and are hosted by Travel Weekly.

When Megan first joined Mantra Group in 2008, she was responsible for the promotion of 12 properties on the Sunshine Coast. Megan now looks after more than 60 properties, under the Peppers, Mantra and BreakFree brands, across Queensland, Northern New South Wales and New Zealand.

In current her role, Megan been instrumental in building and driving sales and marketing strategies for the properties within her regions, including executing highly successful sales and marketing activity schedules for new numerous property acquisitions as Mantra Group continues its rapid portfolio growth.

Megan is an active participant in Mantra Group’s ‘Women in Mantra’ initiative which provides opportunities for women within the Group to build their skills, confidence and extend their networks to further their careers. Megan holds a Bachelor of Business from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.
