BANGKOK Thais will pay respects, nationwide, to the Late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Monday 5 December, a public holiday that marks his birthday.

The work break extends from 3 to 5 December, providing Thailand residents with a long–weekend to return home to be with their families and pay respect to the Late King, who passed away 13 October, age 88.

The King was the world’s longest serving monarch and played a pivotal role at the centre of national life and rural development. He ascended to the throne in 1946.

The Bureau of the Royal Household will close the Grand Palace, 1 to 2 December and 5 to 6 December.

In addition, there will also be merit-making ceremonies, 5 December and on 6 December at the Grand Palace.

Tourists can continue to visit other temples and attractions in Bangkok’s Rattanakosin area, which are all open to visitors as usual.

TTR Weekly joins the nation in paying respects to the Late His Majesty the King. We will resume our daily online news Tuesday, 6 December.
