Monthly festivals for HCMC

HO CHI MINH CITY Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee aims to host tourism-related festivals and events to make the city more appealing and action packed for international visitors.

Local media quoted committee vice chairman, Tran Vinh Tuyen, saying the city will create events to fill out the calendar to lift the city’s image as fun place to visit.

“More festivals will be created so that each month there will be at least one event hosted in the city.”

The city will also carry out quality tourism planning, and may hire foreign consultants to assist in raising the benchmark for tourism if necessary, he said.

The city continues to organise events such as Nguyen Hue Flower Street and Ao Dai Festival as yearly events. New events like a fashion festival in September, fireworks and light festivals in November and an international marathon are on the cards. Shopping festivals, linked to travel and airlines deals are under consideration.

A clean-up of fake goods, low-quality products and poor food hygiene as well as pavement encroachment and fraud are elements that need to be eliminated to make the city a safe and modern destination for tourists.

“That is our urgent goal to take us ahead and be a leisure travel destination that leads in ASEAN,” he said.

The city’s tourism sector targets 5.5 million foreign tourists and 24 million domestic visitors, with total revenue of USD4.9 billion this year.
