HO CHI MINH CITY Long in the pipeline, the Saigon Safari project looks like it will see the light of day.

Ho Chi Minh City authorities now say they will press ahead with the long-awaited Saigon Safari project that will  be sited in Cu Chi District.

Saigon Times media reported Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee made a decision, late last week. It ends speculation on the project that first surfaced for city authorities to consider in 2015.

Once open, Saigon Safari will have about 500 staff and a capacity to serve overnight visitors, probably a maximum of 500 people in an onsite hotel (two people per room) and a maximum daily gate capacity of 3,000 day visitors.

The park will include an open zoo, technical, breeding, animal care and operation facilities, temporary shelters, squares, and parking lots.

At the park’s perimeter the developer will build low-rise bungalows, a hotel, restaurants, children’s playgrounds, green parks and recreational zones, the report said.

In 2015, Vinpearl Joint Stock Company proposed developing Saigon Safari on over 460 hectares with an investment of over USD500 million.

Although the project was first mulled over much in 2004, no progress was made leaving the site empty.
