MTF draws top keynote speaker

BANGKOK Travel and tourism industry “visionary” Anna Pollock, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Mekong Tourism Forum in Luang Pabang, Laos, 6 to 9 June.

Founder of Conscious.Travel, she will address the event’s theme “Prosper with Purpose”, with a speech entitled “Passion + Purpose = Prosperity”.

The UK-based speaker’s appearance at MTF 2017 is sponsored by EXO Foundation.

A recipient of the Visionary of the Year Award from the Canadian tourism industry, Pollock has more 45 years of experience in travel.

She has worked with the Canadian Tourism Commission, Pacific Asia Travel Association, European Travel Commission, European Cities, Tourism New Zealand, and consulted for numerous destinations and organisations.

She is also a visiting Fellow at Oxford Brookes University (and an advisor to the Tourism Education Futures Initiative (TEFI).

Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office executive director, Jens Thraenhart, said: “I could not imagine a more suitable person to address our tourism industry at MTF 2017 with the theme “Prosper with Purpose”.

“Her strength is her ability to see the whole “big picture” and help others make sense of their rapidly and dramatically changing world.”

“I worked with, and was inspired by her, during my time at the Canadian Tourism Commission (Destination Canada) in the mid 2000s.”

Pollock is currently working on a project to address ways to mitigate the negative impacts of so called “over-tourism”, a state that causes pollution, degrades values and damages culture.
