HO CHI MINH CITY Ho Chi Minh City’s Party Committee will invite lecturers from the University of Technology and foreign experts to partake in Tan Son Nhat Airport expansion project studies.

Local media reported the scheme comes under the Party Chief Nguyen Thien Nhan’s decision.

According to People’s Committee plan, a research team for the project will present an outline with the participation of the Ministry of Transport, the Government Office, and aviation agencies by next month.

In September, related agencies, scientists and experts will be invited to listen to the report of the project outline. Then, later in September, the People’s Committee will submit its report to the Prime Minister.

In addition, the department will seek approval to send a mission team to two airports, one in Bangkok and the other in Hong Kong (China) to study working mechanisms that could be adapted for Tan Son Nhat Airport.

The Ministry of Defense has handed over 21 hectare of land south of the airport for the construction of a terminal, taxiways and runway.

Tan Son Nhat, the nation’s busiest airport, is designed to accommodate 25 million passengers a year, a capacity ceiling that was surpassed last year when it handled about 32.5 million passengers.
