Sanyo Parts, a leading auto parts manufacturer and wholesaler from Japan, announced this week that it will set up an auto part repair factory in the Kingdom.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Keiji Sakai, CEO of Sanyo Part, during a meeting with Pich Sophoan, Secretary of State at the Minisry of Labour and Vocational Training.

Mr Sakai told the Cambodian officer that a centre to recycle and repair old auto parts is badly needed in Cambodia, as many second-hand auto parts now in use are unsafe and can lead to accidents in the road. He committed to opening a factory in Cambodia that will specialises in repairing used auto parts, but failed to provide further details.

“We know that automobile parts used in Cambodia are not safe and do not follow international standards. We’ve know this since we first visited the country four years ago to study the market. Now, we have decided to do something about it,” Mr Sakai said.
