DANANG, 21 May 2013: Six agencies in Danang will collaborate to crackdown on tourist related scams to help build tourism competitiveness.
The city’s six agencies are: Public Order Police Department; Danang’s 115 Emergency Centre; local market management agency; Transport Department’s traffic inspectors; Aviation Security Centre; and Danang Visitor Centre.
They will support local police to deal with accidents, robberies, fraud, rip-offs that involve foreigners.
The moves came after a directive from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism that required central region cities and provinces to implement security projects and set up hotlines to support tourists.
The agencies have been told to concentrate on the following measures:
• Public Order Police Department will prosecute anyone who disturbs public order or disrupts tourist safety in Danang;
• Danang’s 115 Emergency Centre will allocate teams to help tourists involved in accidents;
• The local market management agency will handle cases that involve traders scamming tourists;
• Transport Department’s traffic inspectors will beef up traffic safety as well as public transport quality;
• Aviation Security Centre will ensure tourists’ safety at the airport;
• Danang Visitor Centre will help tourists contact city authorities.
Transport Department chief traffic inspector, Nguyen Trung Nghia, said taxis in the city were “strictly controlled” but his office would run inspections to prevent taxi fraud.
Meanwhile, Public Order Police Department deputy director, Le Van Kiem, said the scheme aims to build an image of Danang as a beautiful and safe tourism city to visitors.
Scams and robberies involving visitors are on the increase in Vietnam and tourism authorities said the travel sector needed to join hands to ensure they can support the government’s efforts to improve overall security.
