SHARJAH-UAE  - “Sharjah is looking forward to the UAE-Korea Economic Partnership Forum, to be held from 27-28 May in Seoul, the capital of South Korea, hoping to make the most of the new avenues of economic opportunities and possibilities,” said HE Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre.

HE Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi will be heading the Sharjah delegation, comprising the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), Sharjah Healthcare City and Sharjah Media Centre.

Underscoring the importance of the forum, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, HE Al Qassimi said that the event will build on the excellent relations between the two countries and allow the opportunity to generate greater economic interaction and investment options for all participants, especially for Sharjah and its fast expanding economic sector and tourism industry.

HE Al Qassimi looks forward to the positive resonance with Sharjah’s participation in the Seoul forum. The forum will benefit the emirate’s tourism sector as it looks to reach out to new tourism markets such as South Korea and other Far East countries. The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority continuously targets the tourism market in the Far East region with its regular participation in international tourism and trade exhibitions such as the ITB Singapore and Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE).

The participation of Shurooq (Sharjah Investment and Development Authority), which is the investment arm of the Sharjah government, in the UAE-Korea Forum is also significant. Through Shurooq, Sharjah has been investing heavily in massive development and tourism projects across the emirate, the latest being the AED500 million tourism development project on the Sir Bu Nair Island, an environmentally protected  area.

On the other hand, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been increasingly building ties with emerging economies, especially South Korea, unveiling several initiatives in recent times that reinforce bonds and partnerships with global economic players which directly contribute to Sharjah’s economy and investments.

Sharjah Media Centre, the official entity responsible for the media and communication activities of Sharjah’s governing bodies, is participating in the forum and will highlight the emirate’s ongoing progress as the region’s media and cultural hub, as well as introducing its international initiatives, which attracted worldwide attention such as the Government Communication Forum, hosting renowned personalities like Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey and Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations as its Guests of Honor.

HE Al Qassimi pointed out that with more than 40 per cent of the UAE’s manufacturing sector being based in Sharjah, any new economic initiatives and partnerships with powerful new economic players like South Korea are bound to help the emirate-based companies and investors.

The UAE-Korea Economic Partnership Forum is a result of the collective efforts exerted by the UAE to promote and further enhance business relationships and economic cooperation with South Korea. A joint endeavor to reinforce the economic and trade relations between the UAE and Korea, the Seoul forum will serve as a unique platform to exchange innovations and create advancements in different areas of business.

The third edition of the UAE-Korea Economic Partnership Forum will consist of a trade exhibition that will host various business-to-business meetings with the Korean government and its leading corporations, business houses and investors. The Seoul forum is being attended by key players from different industry sectors such as commerce, tourism, Information Technology, manufacturing, healthcare, energy, finance, media, aviation, real estate and construction.
